This is your guide to achieving the allusive natural beauty aesthetic that some just seem to be born with!
So, what is the natural beauty aesthetic?
The natural beauty aesthetic is all about effortlessness, and looking like you rolled out of bed looking that good.
…Which we know isn’t 100% true, but we’re focusing on getting as close as we can to that ideal.
To look effortless, aim to never seem like you spent more than 15 minutes getting ready. You will never see someone with a cakey face of makeup and impractically long acrylic nails, and think to yourself “I wish I was born so naturally beautiful”.
This post is all about the steps to achieving the natural beauty aesthetic.
Natural Beauty Aesthetic
1. Health
The first piece to the puzzle to look good naturally is to take care of your health. This means eating healthy, exercising, and sleeping well are the base of this aesthetic.
The better you take care of your body, the less you need to cover up and ‘add to’ what’s already there.
Obviously, the bare minimum is being at a healthy weight. If you need a reference for this, then check out this BMI Calculator that will give you a ballpark of the goal weight for your height.
But let’s take a deeper look at how health is impacting your beauty. Think about the difference between someone who stayed up all night, has been eating nothing but fast food this week, and remembered their morning cup of coffee BUT forgot to drink any water at all.
What image is popping into your head? It doesn’t sound like someone who is glowing from within, and is a vibrant beauty! In fact, even if this person was naturally gorgeous, they would still look worse given these circumstances.
And that is one reason why it’s so important to take care of your body, just by making conscious healthy choices around sleep, what you eat, and how you move your body, and can start to not only feel your best, but also look so much better!
2. Beauty Treatments
Another important layer to looking your absolute best even before you’ve showered or brushed your teeth, is beauty treatments! There are sooo many different types of beauty treatments for just about anything you can think of.
And don’t be fooled, beauty treatments are very common! You would be surprised to know how “done up” ordinary people are these days. Beauty treatments are a huge industry, and one of the most effect for achieve that natural beauty aesthetic that we’re talking about here.
The beauty of going this route is that these treatments often create real changes, and don’t just aim to cover things up, giving you a real natural aesthetic body.
This can include anything from botox to eyelash extensions, to lip blushing, and so so much more!
The costs here can vary greatly depending on the procedure and if it is done at home or in-office, so take your time to do some in depth research on the best approach for your own body.

3. Colors to Look Your Best
Here’s one of my best natural beauty aesthetic tips, that often gets looked over, but can make a key difference in your overall appearance… figure out your personal best colors!
This could be getting a professional color analysis done to determine your season, or it could be at home through a bit of trial and error. Either way going from the ‘wrong’ colors, to the ‘right’ colors is sure to give you an impactful transformation.
Not only can you use your best colors to create a customized wardrobe, you can (and should) be using this to determine the jewelry you wear, your hair color, your nail polish, and even the background of important photos!
Pro tip: paint your interior walls, especially the area you look in the mirror most, a color that compliments your skin tone well!
What’s even better is that this is one of those sneaky tricks that makes a world of difference, but no one can quite put their finger on why you look that much better!
And be sure to bring this new knowledge of your coloring into the next section… natural looking makeup!
4. Natural Aesthetic Makeup
After you’ve gone through the first three sections that help build the base of your beauty knowledge, now we can start talking about the fun stuff… makeup!
And the most important thing to remember here is to make it natural looking makeup! Each layer should look like your real face.
Starting with foundation, as it is the base and can make or break the look. First, it should be the exact right shade of your skin tone, so that means getting it professionally matched if you need to, and adjusting it throughout the year!
Further, you must make sure the formulation of the product itself looks natural, some foundations just won’t ever look good in person. Keep in mind many of these products are meant to look good in pictures, but it won’t necessarily look good in real life.
For real life, you will most likely need to reach for lighter coverage products, sheer will look the most natural. And if you struggle with skin issues, this is where the previous sections like taking care of your health, and implementing beauty treatments becomes essential.
While you might be able to fake good skin with some heavy coverage foundation in a photo, that just won’t work in real life. It really defeats the whole natural aesthetic meaning.
Additionally, think about your personal best colors when you are selecting shades for bronzer, blush, eyeshadow, and eyebrow products. With the right subtle colors you can make your features pop while still having an overall natural aesthetic makeup look.
And remember natural looking makeup uses realistic washes of colors, so no clown blush, graphic liner, or cut crease eyeshadow, make makeup choices that suite your overall natural beauty.
5. Accepting Your Unique Natural Beauty Features
You must learn to lean into your unique features, and incorporate them into your beauty look. Small or slight ‘imperfections’ can be very convincing to the natural beauty aesthetic.
Some examples that come to mind are:
- a beauty mark
- freckles
- gap in teeth
- gray hair
Whatever ‘flaw’ you might have can be presented in a flattering way so that it might overall contribute to the natural aesthetic in a flattering way that makes you positively stand out.

6. Clothing that Suites Your Shape
Clothing has major impact on your overall appearance, but that doesn’t mean you have to fancy or spend lots of time on it. The import thing in this section is realizing that not everyone looks good in the same things.
For example, Maybe you’ve had the experience of finding the cutest piece of clothing just to have it hang in your closet for years, because for some reason it just never looks quite right.
You have probably heard of body types like hourglass, rectangle, pear, etc. But not only is everyones body shape different, but also everyone’s natural energy is different!
Sometimes even if you have two people with an hourglass figure, one will look great in a tight body con dress, and the other will look so stiff and uptight, as if the dress is wearing her (instead of her wearing the dress).
If you’ve studied body shapes and still feel like nothing you wear looks good, you might be striving after a style that just doesn’t suit your vibe. This might sound funny, but I encourage you to give it a try.
First experiment with all different kinds of shapes and styles that might not be your taste, or might not be on trend. Next, take note of what look best on you (even if you DON’T like it), and try to find creative ways to merge what suits your body, with what meets your style vision.
Here’s some example of different styles to try and compare:
- structured/loose and billowy
- sharp lines and angles/soft or rounded lines
- plain fabric/ printed fabrics
- lots of lace, pleats, ruffles, or ruching/ just a few well placed details
- crew necklines/square necklines/round necklines/ V- necklines
- long skirt/short skirts
- low rise waist/high waisted
For example, for me I found loose shapes and flowing fabrics look so much better than anything stiff and tailored, but I didn’t want to start dressing like a hippy. One of the happy mediums I have found are dresses that are on trend, but are flowy rather than structured!
When you dress in clothing that suits your body composition you will find that you look much more put together in a very effortless kind of way. When we try to force whatever shapes and styles of clothing that are on trend it can look very forced and not at all like the natural aesthetic image we’re aiming for.
Now you can understand the foundations of the natural beauty aesthetic, it is all about making everything look effortless and like you haven”t put any time at all into your looks. (Shhh…)
